WHMI-FM 93-5 1277 Parkway Howell, Michigan 48843. Ann Arbor Public Schools will have a day of distance learning on Wednesday, February. Tecumseh Public Schools (remote learning, closed preschool and kindergarten) have also decided to close due to inclement weather and icy roads in Washtenaw and Lenawee County. Livingston County is currently experiencing slippery roads and low temperatures. The Howell Public Schools Board of Education does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality, gender (including sexual orientation or transgender identity), disability, age, religion, height, weight, marital or family status, military status, descent, genetic information, or any other category protected by law (collectively, “Protected Classes”), in its programs and activities, including employment opportunities. With this in mind, the decision to open or close schools when the weather is bad is a difficult one for Livingston Public Schools (LPS).
When considering whether to open or close schools due to inclement weather, LPS takes into account a variety of factors. These include the current and expected weather and road conditions in Livingston County as well as any power outages or problems with school buildings or facilities. The constant temperature of the windy air is also taken into account; if it is expected to be -20°F or lower when a student is waiting for a bus or walking to school, school will be cancelled. To inform parents of any delayed openings, school closures, early layoffs and other emergencies, LPS uses Blackboard Connect to send alerts.
Don't call the Livingston Township Police Department for this information; they will not have it. On Thursday February 4th 2021, snow and rain began to arrive in southeastern Michigan. As a result of this mixture of precipitation making driving dangerous on Friday February 5th 2021, some schools that had in-person classes chose to cancel classes for the day. Other schools had already planned for Friday off as part of their regular winter vacation that lasted until Presidents' Day on Monday.
